ICTs are already playing a critical role in the management of the COVID-19 situation through information dissemination and availing tools that support business continuity, education and commerce just to mention a few. KICTAnet notes that it is important to support the continuity of activities such as learning, business and civic activities, and citizens’ access to information.
Pursuant to the notice requesting for public input into the COVID-19 Situation, and after intense consultation with our stakeholders, and as an ICT community, we acknowledge that there are many suggestions necessary. However, our interest is in how ICTs can be utilized in the 3 thematic areas highlighted by the Senate COVID19 Adhoc Committee.
Great work and submission
M-Changa is an online fundraising platform. We assist Kenyans to raise funds for a number of essential services including disaster relief, emergency response, medical bills, funeral costs, charity fundraising, church fundraising, other religion fundraising. We believe M-Changa has an important role to play in the COVID-19 ICT response – particularly in raising and distributing funds, ensuring accountability, developing trust (we conduct due diligence on every campaign), transparency and convenience.
This is a good initiative.
I think it would be good if you added a section on ‘Use of ICT to support Social-Economic Interventions’. Here, I am thinking of using ICT to map out the vulnerable areas/communities/people and layering platforms that can not only communicate directly but also distribute food, money & airtime in case of a lockdown or a breakdown of supply chains due to restriction of movement and/or labour.
The rationale here is that this would go a long way in supporting the ‘stay at home’ call to action for the most vulnerable who may disregard it as they have to source for food.
