The UK Government’s Digital Access Programme through the British High Commission in Nairobi, the Government of Kenya through the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports – State Department for Youth Affairs and Creative Economy, ICT Authority of Kenya, in collaboration with the County Governments of Busia and Mandera, and KICTANet are implementing the project titled “Strengthening Digital Communities”.  The project is aimed at transforming digital communities in Kenya with a special focus on the Two Counties of Mandera and Busia. This project aligns with the UK Digital Development Strategy (DDS) 2024 -2030, focusing on Gender, Equity, and Social Inclusion around digital inclusion for all.

The program aligns with the Kenya Kwanza ambitious Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) enabled by the Government Transformational Digital Agenda (GoTDA) aka “Digital Superhighway” to grow the digital economy and contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals especially 4 and 5. The National Government of Kenya in the National Digital Master Plan 2022-2032 aims at training 20 million citizens in digital skills. The project is recruiting potential individuals to undertake specific tasks at different levels.

The Role: Master Trainer of Community Digital Champions.

Job Summary:

The Master Trainer for Community Digital Champions will lead the training and retooling of Community Digital Champions using the ICT Authority’s (ICTA) Basic Digital Skills curriculum. The role requires experienced professionals in digital literacy training with a strong background in the ICTA curriculum. The trainer will work virtually and in-person to ensure that the Community Digital Champions are well-equipped to extend digital literacy skills to their communities.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Training and Facilitation: Deliver high-quality training to Community Digital Champions on the ICTA Basic Digital Skills curriculum through virtual and in-person sessions; customize training content and materials as needed to suit the specific needs of different regions and communities; and ensure that all training aligns with the goals of the project and meets ICTA standards.

2. Capacity Building and Mentorship: Mentor and guide Community Digital Champions throughout the training process to ensure they can effectively deliver digital literacy skills at the community level; and provide ongoing support and troubleshooting during and after training sessions to ensure smooth implementation.

3. Digital and Technological Support: Use digital devices (smartphone, tablet, or laptop) to facilitate online training sessions, ensuring a seamless virtual learning experience; and ensuring that training materials and content are accessible via online platforms and that Community Digital Champions are proficient in accessing and using these tools.

4. Coordination and Scheduling: Coordinate and manage the training schedule, ensuring that all participants receive timely and effective training over the four months; and monitor progress and provide feedback to the Program Coordinator on training outcomes, challenges, and recommendations for improvement.

5. Monitoring and Reporting: Track the progress of Community Digital Champions throughout the training provide regular updates to the project management team, and assist in the evaluation of the impact and effectiveness of the training program through reporting tools and feedback mechanisms.

Qualifications and Experience:
  • Holders of a Degree or equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution in the following areas: Information Communication Technology, Computer Science, Business Information Technology, Telecommunications Engineering, Software Engineering, Data Analytics, Machine learning and AI, Social sciences, Business Studies, Communication and media journalism, Public Health, Agribusiness, and Human Resources.
  • Proven experience as a Master Trainer or Trainer-of-Trainers (ToT) in digital literacy skills, preferably using the ICTA Basic Digital Skills curriculum.
  • High proficiency in using digital tools, platforms, and devices, including smartphones, tablets, and laptops.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage with trainees in both virtual and in-person environments.
  • Must be available for the next four months to dedicate time to the training sessions and follow-up activities.
  • Reliable access to stable internet to conduct virtual training and meetings.
  • Possess or have access to a digital device (smartphone, tablet, or laptop) for training purposes

  • Ability to customize and adapt training materials to suit different regional and community needs.
  • Strong digital skills and familiarity with online learning platforms and digital tools used in training.
  • Ability to manage training schedules, track progress, and meet deadlines.
